EcoLedger
Carbon Footprint Calculator
Free tool · No sign-up

Calculate your Scope 1, 2 & 3 footprint in minutes.

A carbon calculator for finance and sustainability teams — pick your sector, fill in what you know, estimate what you don't, and see a credible Scope 1, 2 & 3 figure in minutes.

Coverage follows the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard, Scope 2 Guidance and Scope 3 Standard (Cat 1–15), with emission factors drawn from DESNZ 2024, IPCC AR5/AR6 and IEA grid data. The output is structured to align with ISSB IFRS S2 disclosure — a board-ready report with cited factors that you can export and hand to your auditor.

When you need an audit-grade number under ISO 14064-3 or ISAE 3410 assurance, EcoLedger handles the full GHG Protocol workflow.

Things you burn or release on-site or in your own vehicles.
0.00 tCO₂e
What is Scope 1? Direct emissions from sources your business owns or controls — the gas boiler at your office, the diesel in your fleet, refrigerant gases that leak from your A/C units. If you can put your hand on it, it's probably Scope 1.

Energy you buy Scope 2

0.00 tCO₂e
What is Scope 2? Indirect emissions from energy you buy — usually grid electricity. The fuel was burnt at the power station, but the emissions are yours because you bought the electricity.

What is Scope 3? The 15 categories of indirect emissions across your value chain — from suppliers, business travel, employee commuting, waste, the products you sell. For most organisations Scope 3 is far bigger than Scope 1+2 combined. We've kept the most material categories below.

Method, sources & limitations
Approach. Totals are the sum of activity-data × emission-factor for every line, divided by 1,000 to convert kg → tCO₂e. Refrigerant emissions are kg × GWP / 1,000. Process emissions and biogenic CO₂ are entered directly in tCO₂e.

Standards aligned to. WRI/WBCSD GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard (Revised, 2004); WRI GHG Protocol Scope 2 Guidance (2015) covering location- and market-based methods; WRI Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Accounting and Reporting Standard (2011) covering Cat 1–15. GHG Protocol Scope 2 Guidance market-based criteria (Quality Criteria for Contractual Instruments, §7.5) are reflected in the evidence-type dropdown.

Emission factors. UK Government GHG Conversion Factors (DESNZ, 2024 v1.1 release, June 2024). Refrigerant GWPs from IPCC AR5 (2014) by default; AR6 (2021) optional. International grid factors: EEA 2023 (EU), EPA eGRID 2024 (US), IEA 2024 (China, Norway), CEA 2023 (India), MCTI 2024 (Brazil). Spend-based factors derive from EXIOBASE 3.8 / DEFRA Indirect Emissions 2024 — these vary 5–10× across categories and are the largest source of estimation error.

Sector benchmarks. EcoLedger working estimates from CDP 2024 disclosed Scope 1+2+3 / revenue, sector-filtered (n≈30–80 per sector). Designed as a directional sanity-check, not a peer-reviewed comparison. Sector definitions follow ICB; comparability across companies is limited by differing organisational boundaries, Scope 3 completeness and reporting maturity.

What this tool is not. Free directional calculator only — not assurance-grade. Does not replace verification under ISO 14064-3, AA1000AS or ISAE 3410. Does not constitute regulatory disclosure under ISSB IFRS S2, CSRD/ESRS E1, UK SRS 1&2 or the SEC climate rule. Sanity warnings are heuristics, not validation.
